Satisfy your KFC popcorn chicken cravings sitting at home with these KFC Style Spicy Popcorn Chicken morsels that are terribly close to the real thing and are healthier. Dip these little chunks of glory into Sriracha Mayo dip and enjoy the loud crunch!

There is something about them being bite sized and coated in a sweet spicy seasoning that I find so irresistible.
They are the absolute crunchiest and they never ever last.

The process is simple and made with pantry staples, so no need to rush off to the stores. To get the KFC texture, a seasoned flour mixture is used and the KFC secret spice mix, which is of course my own spice, rather pretty close!

I always have corn flour and rice flour in my cupboards for a gluten-free alternative, however you can use breadcrumbs and all-purpose flour if you prefer.
I also use water to dip the chicken bites into, instead of egg. I find that egg messes the oil too much.
This recipe is so easy and so accommodating.

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp thyme

Instructions

  • Season chicken with spices.
  • Set up your dredging station

  • Beat eggs into a bowl.
  • Use water if you’re not keen on using egg. It works great, without messing the oil.
  • Dip spiced chicken into flour mixture, then into egg or water. Lastly dip again into flour mixture.
  • Chicken pieces must be well coated.
  • Use all-purpose flour and breadcrumbs if you prefer.
  • Fry chicken pops in hot oil until golden then drain onto paper towels, to absorb the excess oils.
  • Serve with your favourite dip.
  • I made my dip using mayonnaise and sriracha sauce
